When does a drywall hole need backing
A drywall hole needs backing when there is not enough solid edge or surface to hold the patch securely. Larger holes, access cuts, doorknob damage, and openings between studs often need support before a patch piece can be taped and finished.
Backing keeps the patch from flexing, cracking, or sinking behind the wall. Douglas checks the hole size, edge condition, stud location, and what sits behind the opening before deciding how to close it.
