When should a ceiling be skim coated
A ceiling should be skim coated when the existing surface is sound but rough, uneven, or marked by old patches that paint would highlight. It is not the right first step for sagging board, active leaks, loose plaster, or popcorn texture that still needs to be scraped off or covered first.
Ceiling skim coating needs careful staging because the work is overhead and every edge is seen from below. Douglas checks texture, stains, cracks, light direction, and finish expectations before deciding whether skim coating is enough.
