Drywall Installation

You need new drywall installed when the wall or ceiling surface is missing, removed, too damaged to patch, or being built as part of a renovation. That includes basements, additions, old plaster replacement, large water-damage openings, and rooms where new framing needs sheetrock before taping and finishing can begin.

A patch is usually for a bounded damaged area, while installation creates or replaces a full surface. If the existing board is soft, swollen, sagging, removed for access, or too uneven to finish well, Douglas Taping will talk through new drywall instead of trying to hide a failed surface with compound.

Drywall should be planned around the final finish before the first sheet is hung. Seam layout, outlet cuts, fixture openings, panel edges, ceiling height, old plaster transitions, and fastener placement all affect how cleanly the taping and finishing stages can hide the work.

On one commercial job, Douglas Taping hung about 6,800 square feet of 5/8-inch drywall with 14-foot walls, multiple room types, demising walls, mezzanine walls, mailbox niches, and about 60 ceiling patches. That kind of work shows why board installation has to consider access, sequencing, and what the finished paint surface will reveal.

Walls and ceilings should be planned together, but ceilings usually need extra attention because gravity, overhead access, fixtures, and raking light make defects easier to see. Wall installation raises different issues, including trim, outlets, backing, door openings, window openings, and transitions to old surfaces.
