Sometimes what looks like a drywall problem is actually a framing problem. One customer called us because their bathroom sink was literally pulling away from the wall. When we opened it up, the sink had only ever been attached to the sheetrock, with no stud or backing behind it. We installed proper studs and solid wood backing, reinstalled the drywall, and taped and spackled it correctly. A wall repair that doesn't fix what's behind it is a repair you'll be calling someone about again.

Often, yes, but not the way you'd think. If a fixture was only attached to the drywall itself with no framing or backing behind it, the drywall eventually gives way. We open the wall, install proper studs and backing, then rebuild and finish the drywall correctly.
